One of my favorite camp trips was one we took to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It was Halloween weekend so the campground had some fun activities and was decorated for the festivities. We had always wanted to go to Gettysburg and my brother Reid was going to be there for a Prophecy conference. He works for a ministry called Get a Life Media. They have some amazing Christian videos that you might want to check out. So, we decided it was a good time to head to Gettysburg.
We got there really late on Wednesday night, they had some really bad weather right before we got there and the camp manager called us to let us know that the site we had been assigned was flooded and they were going to put us on the sundeck for the first night. Which was fine with us, we had left a little late and were going to be pulling in about 10:30 at night. So, the first night we were there we were on the “sundeck”.
I was up at sunrise walking the dogs and took this picture. You can see the standing water. That morning Brad was meeting some people from work at the Gettysburg Battlefield. They wanted us out of the sundeck by 2:00 which really pushed us because Brad didn’t get back from the battlefield until after 1. It was a bit of a hassle to have to move, although it wasn’t the campground’s fault that it had poured so bad the night before, but, we actually got lucky. Because of the bad weather they had some cancellations and we wound up getting a premium spot right along the river. We were happy!
We met my brother, Reid, at the hotel where they were having the conference. I hadn’t seen him in over 5 years so that was amazing to get to catch up with him.
We listened to the sermon from his pastor, Billy Crone, and then went to dinner with Reid and Billy and 3 other friends of theirs. The next day we went to the Harley Factory in York, PA. We did the tour there which was fun and interesting. I recommend it if you are at all interested in Harleys or even in manufacturing processes.
We did participate in the trick or treating. Sadie and Tess got into their costumes and greeted all the trick or treaters. They did pretty good with most of the kids but a couple of them scared them a little. But they actually did great!
You have to admit they are pretty crazy adorable! They are Thing 1 and Thing 2.
This trip was such a good time. We both got to do things that we had been wanting to do for a long time. For Brad it was the Harley Davidson factory and for me it was….. Hershey’s Chocolate World – HAHA
We took the trolley tour which we absolutely recommend. It was really fun and very interesting.
Our last day there we visited the Gettysburg battlefields. Brad had been to the battlefields with work, but I hadn’t been, and it was something I had always wanted to do. I’ve been interested in the Civil War since I was a young teenager. We hired a tour guide who got into our car and drove us around the battlefields. He walked us through the entire battle. It was absolutely amazing!
Our trip to Gettysburg was certainly a trip to remember!
